potato, Solanum tuberosum

When potatoes came up as today's random choice, I was reluctant to post yet another escaped garden flower. But then they started to seem like a compelling choice right after the Thanksgiving feast. So here you go, another poisonous plant that people somehow figured out has one edible part. We all know the rest of that story! Potatoes have been reported wild from AL, AR, CA, CT, FL, HI, IL, ID(of course), IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NH, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, UT, VA, VT, WA, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, and now have an entertaining role in 'Mars'.
