yellow avens, Geum aleppicum

Up to now we haven't looked at a typical yellow Geum. Drooping, red, more fanciful ones drew our attention. But most Geum look more like this. Actually, there are an awful lot of flowers in the Geum/Potentilla tribes that look a lot like this. So lets not overlook them. This yellow avens is one of the more common, growing around the temperate Northern Hemisphere. Here it's in AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, MD(E), ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, MB, NB, NS, NT, ON, PE, QC, SK, and YT.
