hairy pennyroyal, Hedeoma hispida

Hairy pennyroyal is another of the little ones you have to get down to the ground to see. You'll know it's pennyroyal when you can see the swollen lower part of the calyxes. These flowers are not much over an eighth inch long, and often overlooked.
Apparently only the Dakota found it useful. For them it was a cold remedy, and helped settle upset stomachs. Hairy pennyroyal grows in dry, often sandy areas in AL, AR, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY(T), LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NH, NY(T), OH(T), OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, MB, ON, QC(L), and SK.
