prairie cordgrass, Spartina pectinata

One of the prominent plant features of Ives Fen Preserve are the tall prairie grasses. Those are the local champs among the air breeders. They reach about the same heights as we do. Unlike a lot of sedges and grasses, these bloom in the late summer. No need to be precocious when you're taller than most of the bug breeders. And this way the human flower fanciers are almost forced to recognize your subtle beauty. And sneeze. Prairie cordgrass grows in AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA(S), WI, WV, WY, AB, MB, NB, NF, NT, ON, PE, QC, SK, and on SPM.
