Plants are like figure skating? They score with technical points, and they all have artistic merit. Tall coneflower's technical score puts it in the same group with that famous performer, black-eyed Sue. But here we see the very different and creative art. The falling flowers below the yellow cluster at the top. Points for originality! You might not guess it was a Rudbeckia. It scores with the pollinators well enough to have taken it's audience by storm. It grows in low areas of partial shade across the continent, except for the tough crowds in AK, CA, HI, NV, OR, AB, LB, NF, NT, NU, SK, and YT. Lenawee Co MI, 8/18/10.
