sweetbrier, Rosa rubiginosa
A sweetbrier is a sweetbrier is a sweetbrier? Doesn't have the same cachet, does it. What the plant does have is an intriguing pungent aroma quite different from other roses. Sometimes compared to the scent of apple, I find it more unique. I can never pass one without pinching off a leaflet and taking a sniff. You might pass one of these Eurasians in any state except AK, AZ, FL, HI, ND, NM, NV, and SD, and in BC, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, and QC, or on any other continent except of course Antarctica.
