wild strawberry, Fragaria virginiana
What creature on Earth doesn't know strawberries? Although these days I suppose some of us don't know wild strawberries. Those little half-inch bits, so much tastier than those grocery store monstrosities. This species and the Pacific coast's F. chiloensis are the parents of cultivated strawberries. The cultivated version does seem to be improving. Wild strawberries grow in every state and province but HI, and on SPM. Mackinac Co MI, 5/26/17.
