sticky chickweed, Cerastium glomeratum
Glomeratum because it gloms onto things? It is indeed sticky, and often ends up with little bits of grit and debris hanging on. Does that have an advantage? Does it discourage herbivores? Whatever the reason, it works. This Eurasian now grows around the world. The flowers are about a quarter inch. It grows in weedy spots in AK, AL, AR, CA, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MT, NC, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WA, WV, WY, BC, NF, NS, ON, QC, and YT. Morton Co GA, 3/15/16.
