climbing fumitory, Adlumia fungosa

Way to go newcomers! As we've spread west across the continent, this species has retreated. Here in Lenawee County, for instance, it was last recorded in 1867. Of course, coincidence doesn't mean causality. Like when I fell off a stool three weeks ago, and caught the flu. But with fumitory I bet there's a connection. We've started looking at poppy family flowers. Is fumitory connected to the poppy family? On that, every other botanist may have a different answer. A lot of this and related asymmetrical flowers have often been separated into the fumitory family. These days the trend seems to be in favor of inclusion. This herbaceous vine grows in CT, DE, IA, IL, IN(X), KY(E), MA(T), MD(T), ME(T), MI(S), MN, NC, NH(T), NJ, NY, OH(T), PA, RI(E), TN(T), VA, VT, WI, WV, BC, MB, NB, NS, ON, and QC(L).
