Canada violet, Viola canadensis

Canada is one of our more dramatically colored native violets. The face of the flower if so clearly marked with a target, and directions should the pollinator need to read them. The backs of the petals are a pretty pastel purple. This image is Viola canadensis, var. canadensis, and grows in woods in AL, CT(T), DE, GA, IL(E), IN, KY, MA, MD, ME(E), MI, NC, NH, NJ(T), NY, OH, PA, RI(X), SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NS, ON, and QC.
