smooth rose-mallow, Hibiscus laevis

What a welcome sight in the fence rows along I-80 in Nebraska! These six inch flowers are easily seen as they whiz by. Or to heck with the rules. Pull over and get your first picture of smooth rose-mallow. That was many years ago. These have been occasional welcome sights ever since. Our common Michigan species mostly lacks the dark centers that put this its image over the top. Smooth or halberd-leaf rosemallow grows in damp open spots in AL, AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, and ON. Clarke Co GA, 7/7/18.
