Find a higher dryer spot on the shore, or in the fen, and take a seat. Contemplate the brook lobelia. A delicate little thing, hardly a quarter inch long. They pop up here and there, mostly a few at a time. Little blue jewels scattered in the wetlands. Ephemeral in a season, but always back again. Overshadowed by so many grander blossoms. There's something special when you do spot them. Worth a pause, and a few moments of quiet. Brook lobelias grow in CT, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NH(T), NJ, NY, OH, PA(E), SD, VT, WA(E), WI, WV, AB, BC, MB, NB, NF, NS, NT, ON, QC, and SK.
