nakedflower ticktrefoil, Hylodesmum nudiflorum

Nakedflower because the flowering stem rises from the base of the plant, without leaves. Otherwise it's like the other ticks, with seeds that grab at you as if the could jump. This image shows the minutely uneven nature of flower petals. Is this so they will reflect light evenly in all directions, and attract more pollinators? That has long been my story, and I'm considering sticking to it despite what you might read in the blog today. These 3/8 inch flowers grow in woods in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, ON, and QC(L). Lenawee Co MI, 8/1/11.
