southern catalpa, Catalpa bignonioides
Southern? These days southern catalpa is said to be native of the states on our southeastern seaboard. But it has gotten around. It was a common tree in Europe during the Tertiary period. Now it has spread north and west with our help, and can be found in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MO, MS, NC, ND, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, and ON. Washtenaw Co MI, 6/21/14.
