azure blue sage, Salvia azurea

Park the car, look out the window, and wow! There's a very blue flower! Azure sage was the first greeting in the piney woods at Pitcher Plant Preserve near Doerun, Georgia. What a beautiful plant that I hadn't seen before. These flowers are a little over a half inch. They are normally in upright spikes, but this one was a little lazy that morning. They are common through a fairly wide range, and often - and deservedly - shows up in gardens. Azure blue is in AL, AR, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL(T), IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NM, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN(S), TX, UT, and WI. Colquit Co GA, 10/19/15.
