prairie trillium, Trillium recurvatum

Yesterday's garden accidents lead to this trillium. I've been frustrated in my efforts to get a good digital image of a red trillium. Never in the right place at the right time. So I'm a sucker for those little packages of red trillium root in nurseries. But in several tries, nothing has grown. Three or four years ago I did it again. Nothing appeared. This year I saw some already growing in pots. That should work! Proving I'm a slow learner, I took them to the same spot where nothing has grown before. And I was wrong. There was a prairie trillium. That root grew after all. But it was delightfully the wrong trillium. This one is a rarity here. This particular flower is a little past prime, but the wrinkles and curled-in tips add interest. Prairie trilliums grow in AL, AR, IA, IL, IN, KY, MI(T), MO, MS, NC, OH, OK, PA, TN, TX, and WI. Cultivated, Lenawee Co MI, 6/8/19.
