wintergreen, Gaultheria procumbens

Gotcha! Wintergreen is along time favorite. Maybe my first wild edible other than the obvious berries. But a good shot has eluded me. This is a little shrub, no more than a few inches high. The rest runs along underground. All parts are edible and wintergreen tasty. These flowers are not much over a quarter inch, down there below the few leaves. This time, good flowers, the right equipment (including supplemental light), and just enough agility. The hillside helped. Wintergreen grows in woods, or more open areas as you go north, in AL, CT, DE, GA, IL(E), IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM.
