ashy cinquefoil, Potentilla inclinata

OK. I confess! I picked it. This image was taken with the flower held up in front of a shaded area. But the rest of the story is I picked it to bring home and identify. This cinquefoil is a little tricky, and there has been much confusion between this and P. intermedia. I've got some shots I took of this before I picked it. Those all have petals that were partly withered. This one did too. About 20 minutes after I picked it, I noticed the petals had expanded to pretty much their full display. So yes, I picked it. But it seemed to like it! Perhaps the main reason for that story is that I can't find a single bit of plant lore about ashy cinquefoil. Ashy is an Eurasian native, and has been reported from AZ, CT, IL, IN, MA, MI, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, BC, NS, ON, PE, and QC.
