Osterhout's beardtongue, Penstemon osterhoutii

Osterhout? A quick read in Wiki and I feel like I know him. And want to be him! In 1885, at the age of 27, George moved from Pennsylvania to Windsor, Colorado. He spent his life there, becoming known as "a successful businessman, a kindly neighbor, a philanthropic Christian, a scientist of more than local renown". in 1893 he began collecting Rocky Mountain plants, finishing with over 20,000 specimens, now in the Rocky Mountain Herbarium. Today's penstemon is one of 237 plants named by him or for him. Osterhout's beardtongue grows only in the mountains of CO. Montezuma Co CO, 6/22/13.
