helleborine, Epipactis helleborine.

When I go north, I always hope to see orchids. There are quite a few easier to see up there than down here among trolls. But this year I was a little late, and only saw helleborines. Another Eurasian invader! Nothing new here. These have invaded my yard. Mow them, and they come back up. They're very happy under the spruce. Until now. The last two years they appear to be dying out. If they do come up, they don't bloom. Like something out of War of the Worlds, the invaders are sick. These now grow in AR, CA, CO, CT, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, TN, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, BC, LB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, and QC.
