Hercules'-club, Aralia spinosa

A Cub Scout's frustration, and a much older guy's frustration. As a scout, I collected leaves, all nicely pressed and displayed on notebook pages. Hercules' leaves are way too big to fit. What you see here are parts of two of the compound leaves. More recently, this small tree was just too tall to get at all close to the flowers. This is a telephoto shot. This is also called Devil's-walking-stick, a tribute to the viciously spiny trunk. No climbing here! Hercules'-club grows in thickets and woodland borders in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME MI, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WV. Wakulla Co FL, 8/8/18.
