hairy mountain-mint, Pycnanthemum pilosum

"Why do birds suddenly appear, ev'ry time you are near? Just like me, they long to be, close to you." The Carpenters. There doubtless were birds present the day this one appeared. Few tiny flowers better reward closeups than mountain-mints. These were about 3/16 inch high. Hairy is very much like whorled mountain-mint, and sometimes included in that species, P. verticillata. Hairy mountain-mint grows in damp meadows in AR, CT, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD(E), MI(T), MO, MS, NE, NY(E), OH(E), OK, PA(X), TN(X), WV, ON, and QC. Fulton Co OH, 9/6/15.
