Texas goldentop, Euthamia gymnospermoides
Euthamia is another genus for which the pros are as likely to describe the difficulties of classification than they are to tell you which species it is. But the ones I've seen fit very neatly into the keys in Flora of North America. This one is clearly Texas. Uh, oh! Texas only gets as far northeast as Indiana. This was Ohio. Maybe they've got a point after all? Maybe we should just call it a goldenrod like some used to do. Texas goldentop is said to grow in AR, CO, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MN, MO, NC, NE, OH(T), OK, SD, TN, TX, WI, WV, and ON. Champaign Co OH, 8/19/11.
