hoary ticktrefoil, Desmodium canescens

Hoary ticktrefoil is a pretty little nuisance, and it was a nice surprise. A couple months ago there was an item in the Sunday paper about a wine tasting event at a local winery. It also mentioned the hiking areas on the property, which turned out to be between Ives Preserve and the next preserve a couple miles down river. I hadn't known this winery was there. So I went for a walk. Hoary trefoil was growing along the edge of the woods. A new plant record for the county. Finding this stuff is mostly just getting out there. And you might get to try some wine, if you're into that too. Hoary ticktrefoil grows in open or partially shaded sandy soil in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 9/8/19.
