red turtlehead, Chelone obliqua

Red turtlehead only grows wild in one spot in Michigan, a little north of here. There have been several reports from enthusiasts that it grows in an area south of here near the Ohio border. Seeing them would be an explosion of color there in the woods.
I've spent quite a lot of time tromping in the wild looking for it. Why can't I find it? Was it misidentified? The white species sometimes has a little pink on it. Was I in the wrong place? People aren't always good at locations. Has it died out? Always possible. Did I just not find it? Also possible. Was the time wasted? NO. Great times in the woods, with plenty of other beautiful things. Red turtlehead does grow in AL, AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD(T), MI(E), MN, MO, MS, NC, SC, TN, and VA. Cultivated, Isabella Co MI, 9/13/12.
