tumble mustard, Sisymbrium altissimum
"Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds." If you grew up hearing the Sons of the Pioneers, or Gene Autry, tumbleweeds were an iconic symbol of the Wild West. Turns out the tumble is a method rather than a species. There are many species that tumble to spread seeds. And they live everywhere. Whether you can tumble a mile or a meter, it's a good strategy. This one even managed to tumble across the Atlantic and Pacific, and now grows in every state and province except AL and LB. Lenawee Co MI, 6/19/11.
