whitehead bogbutton, Lachnocaulon anceps

Little white buttons on longish stems, sticking up out of the wet spots. If you've ever taken a look at southern wetlands, you've probably noticed these and their kin. They're just different enough to catch the eye, or the attention of pollinators. Plants in this group are known as weak competitors, and often show up an wet areas that have exposed soil where other plants have been disturbed. Whitehead grows in AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TX, and VA. Taylor Co FL, 7/7/18. Pipewort family, Eriocaulaceae.
