fogfruit, Phyla lanceolata

Wiki and many others would call this frogfruit. That may be the more traditional name. These days, fog seems to be in. Either name may have come from the plant's natural habitat, in low lying damp areas. Now it has also become a weed of open areas that receive regular moisture, like gardens. This species of fogfruit grows in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ(E), NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, PA(R), SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 7/28/11. Vervain family, Verbenaceae.
