Leadplant because its dense gray fuzz makes it look leaden, not because once it gets into your habitat, it lasts forever. Leadplant can live for centuries, and it would be interesting to know how they know. Leadplant can also die out quickly where it is overgrazed. This is a subshrub with roots that can go 15 feet deep. It's popular in planted prairies, where it is very much at home. It's also at home in AR, CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, LA, MI(SC), MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NM, OK, SD, TX, WI, WY, MB, and ON.
