eastern blue-eyed grass, Sisyrinchium atlanticum

You can see blue-eyed grass flowers, maybe two-thirds of an inch across, among all the other plants in fields and openings. Sort of jewels in the rough. I thought of showing a wider image, and bringing the rough into the picture. Then I got to looking at the wonderful detail - the nicely sculpted eye, the claws and notches. So here we are close again. But the background still shows plenty of rough. Didn't make much of an effort to clean it up that day. Eastern blue-eyed can be found in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL(E), IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI(T), MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH(E), PA(E), RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, and NS. Collier Co FL, 1/25/13. Iris family, Iridaceae.
