Turn about is fair? Cuban jute, now also claimed by India and Queensland, is an American native that has spread around the world. It is used for crude fiber, and is chock full of chemistry that leads to all sorts of herbal treatments. It is edible, very nutritious, but rarely used because the chemistry does make it unpleasant. It grows mostly in open areas of poor or disturbed soil, with us in AL, AR, AZ, CA, FL, GA, HI, KS, KY, LA, MD, MS, NC, NJ, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, and VA. Polk Co FL, 3/16/16. Mallow family, Malvaceae.
