hairy vetch, Vicia villosa

Hairy vetch is one of those useful nltrogen-fixing legumes we love to hate. This Eurasian is planted as a forage crop or as green manure. Now it often clambers over other herbs in fields and along roads, whether it is wanted there or not. We've all likely seen the patches of purple or sometimes pink or white flowers. Hairy vetch grows in every state, and in BC, MB, NS, ON, QC, and YT. Lenawee Co MI, 7/5/19. Bean family, Fabaceae.
