flowering rush, Butomus umbellatus

Flowering rush is another great horticultural idea! It adds beauty to our water gardens, then tags along on our trips to the beach or to go fishing. Now of course it adds beauty there and in other places it was never meant to be. The nine stamens are kind of interesting, sort of an intermediate stage between the numerous ones in arrowheads, and the rigid three or six more recently developed in lilies and associates. Flowering rush has now been reported from CT, ID, IL, IN, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NE, NY, OH, PA, SD, VT, WI, AB, BC, MB, NB, NS, ON, PE, and QC. Monroe Co MI, 6/26/11. Flowering rush family, Butomaceae.
