Moving along to Chateau Nivale Preserve, we encounter leatherwood. This shrub has tough pliant bark that was used for cordage. The plant was also used to treat a wide variety of ailments. These flowers are about a third of an inch long. Leatherwood grows in woods in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL(E), GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD(T), ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NS, ON, and QC.
