rough hawkweed, Hieracium scabrum

Hawkweeds too have native and introduced species. If you see them in weedy places, they're most likely introduced. If you see them in wilder spots, they're more likely native. Rough hawkweed was along a forest rail into a gorge in the Upper Peninsula. We were on our way to see a waterfall and visiting with plants too. This native is distinguished by all those glandular hairs. Rough hawkweed is a woodland plant in AR, CT, DE, GA, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, TN(T), VA, VT, WA, WV, BC, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM. Baraga Co MI, 7/13/14.
