Walter's violet, Viola walteri

Walter's is a rare little violet, and has been an object of three trips to southern Ohio. Sometimes the path less taken does pay off. I didn't see any of these along the trail through Chateau Nivale Preserve. Eventually, after it looped back for the return part, I noticed a slight path going farther up the hill. The path less taken? Now why did anyone go that way? Turned out that was the path to Walter's, growing on thin soil at and near the top of the limestone drop off. Walter's grows in such spots in AL, AR, FL, GA, KY(T), LA, MD, MS, NC, OH(E), PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WV.. Adams Co OH, 4/20/20. Violet family, Violaceae.
