alsike clover, Trifolium hybridum

Hybridum? This does look like it's half way between white and red clover, doesn't it? Alsike clover has much the same origin and habit as those two, but it is its own species. It's not as persistent in lawns as white clover. And not quite as robust as red. So it doesn't get quite the attention they do. Alsike is a town in Sweden which was the source of the specimen used by Linnaeus for his publication of the name. He thought it was a hybrid. Alsike clover has been reported here from everywhere except TX and GL. Lucas Co OH, 5/29/16. Bean family, Fabaceae.
