spotted mandarin, Prosartes maculosa

What a surprise! I had hoped to see another species of mandarin, but I wasn't aware this one even existed. Spotted mandarin is a rarity throughout its range. It's been recorded in Michigan in one spot 98 years ago. These frilly one-inch flowers hang singly or in pairs from branch ends on foot tall plants. This is a woodland species in AL, GA, KY(S), MI(X), NC, OH(E), TN, VA, and WV. Adams Co OH, 4/28/20. Lily-of-the-valley family, Convallariaceae.
