purple mullein, Verbascum phoeniceum

Here's the purple-haired teenager of the mullein family. The rest most often show off in yellow or occasional whites. Purple mullein is a biennial, and will self seed itself in gardens. It seems to be doing that at the edges of the garden where this image was shot. This is a Eurasian that's just starting to get a foothold here. It's been reported wild from NY and OH. Beal Gardens MSU, 5/26/17. Figwort family, Scrophulariaceae.
