dog mustard, Erucastrum gallicum

Dog mustard? An unappealing name for a plants that has allegedly edible leaves and flowers. Translating the species as French mustard might have been better. There are a lot of white flowered mustards, and a whole bunch of bright yellow ones. A few choose a middle path, with the appealing result we have here. This European is a relatively late arrival. In Michigan it wasn't recorded until 1922. It's now been found in AK, AL, CA, CT, DE, FL, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, LB, MB, NB, NF, NS, NT, ON, PE, QC, SK, and on SPM. Lenawee Co MI, 8/16/12. Mustard family, Brassicaceae.
