bird vetch, Vicia cracca

This bird vetch was along a rail on the east side of town. It's one of my favorite shots taken wandering around waiting for car service to be done. Bird vetch flowers often are more purple and have smaller standards. This is a sometimes fodder crop, and is often called cow vetch. It's an Eurasian and has been reported from AK, AL, AR, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, UT, VA, WA, WI, WV, WY, all provinces, and from GL and SPM. Lenawee Co MI, 7/29/14. Bean family, Fabaceae.
