Brazilian vervain, Verbena brasiliensis

Brazilian vervain is a south American plant that has been working its way north, mostly with the help of gardeners. It's taller than most garden verbenas, with smaller flowers. It may be working itself up to being one of the next invasives in southern states. Its similar to and sometimes confused with purpletop vervain, V. bonariensis, which has slightly larger flowers. Those of Brazilian are about 3/16 inch across. Now found wild in AL, AR, CA, FL, GA, HI, MO, MS, NC, OK, OR, SC, TN, TX, and VA. Morton Co GA, 3/16/16. Vervain family, Verbenaceae.
