early figwort, Scrophularia lanceolata

Figworts are odd little flowers, not much more than a quarter inch long. The plants, on the other hand, might be eight feet tall. This one apears today because I just found the first record of this species in our county. Once again, went out looking for something else and found something else! The Iroquios used infusions, decoctions, compounds and poultices of this to try to remedy a variety of ailments. Early figwort grows in CA, CO, CT, DE, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI(S), SD, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, AB, BC, NB, NS, ON, QC, and SK. Chippewa Co WI, 7/8/11. Figwort family, Scrophulariaceae.
