heartleaf bittercress, Cardamine cordifolia

Heartleaf bittercress was a delight for this guy from the east. Back here we're used to small bittercress, with flowers often only a eighth of an inch across. The few larger flowered species only have a few. These larger plants with much bigger bunches of blooms are real show-offs. Kind of like their mountain habitat. The young leaves are edible, but with a radish effect that gets stronger as they age. Heatleaf grows in damp ground in AZ, CA, CO, ID, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY, and BC. Summit Co CO, 6/17/13. Mustard family, Brassicaceae.
