oregano, Origanum vulgare

Ever grow oregano in your garden? Then you know this is tough stuff. There's a spot in my yard that has resisted all efforts to remove it. Which leads us to a bit of family lore. Way back when my wife and I were dating, I fixed my spaghetti for her. Very tasty! But as she tells it, that night she woke up in serious pain. Thought she was having having a heart attack. Then she started burping "pure oregano". Fortunately, that first time proved to be an innoculation. I've been informed that spaghetti is on the menu here very soon. Oregano! An essential spice! Just be careful with it in the uninitiated stomach or garden. Oregano has been reported wild from AR, CA, CT, DE, IL, MA, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, VA, VT, WA, BC, NS, ON, PE, and QC. Lenawee Co MI, 8/30/11. This one was in a field adjacent to a defunct nursery, where it persists long after the rest of the operation had disappeared. Mint family, Lamiaceae.
