Carolina false vervain, Stylodon carneus

Carolina false vervain really is in the vervain family, so it's not entirely false. It gives the impression of a test model that didn't quite make it. It has one mostly naked flowering spike with relatively small flowers. If you go to the Dave's Garden site where he tries to describe lots of plants, there is a page for this. But it just says it doesn't know anything. None the less, Carolina seems to be currently successful - enough so that it was hanging around at a fuel stop, so here you have it. Carolina false vervain grows in AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TX, and VA. Dixie Co FL, 10/20/15. Verain family, Verbenaceae.
