Wateree trillium, Trillium oostingii

Trillium Tuesdays are back! Thanks to the generosity of gardeners of Chester County, Pennsylvania, there are enough new images for about a three month run. And are they new! Wateree trillium was first described as a new species in 2008 by L. L. Gaddy. It is known only from a limited area near the Wateree River in South Carolina. And of course from great gardens like Edgewood, thanks to great gardeners like John Lonsdale. Edgewood Gardens, Chester Co PA, 4/21/21. Trillium family, Trilliaceae (or Melanthiaceae, depending on whether you like to split 'em or lump 'em).
