netted pawpaw, Asimina reticulata

People in the South must think of the North as a boring place. We only have one kind of pawpaw. There are eight other species scattered around the southeast. Netted pawpaw is one of them. It's a small shrub of open areas, much easier to spot than our woodland tree. These flowers are pollinated by a couple of species of scarab beetles. Nice to know those bugs are good for something other than rolling around balls of nasty stuff! Netted paw paw grows in FL and GA. Polk Co FL, 3/18/16. Custard apple family, Annonaceae.
