Appalachian arrowhead, Sagittaria australis

Imagine walking barefoot along the shore, wading among the arrowheads. You're feeling through the mud with your toes, looking for tubers for dinner. There was a time. Now we just go to the market and grab a bag of potatoes. And the market has all the flowers in just one small area, if at all. There was a time. Appalachian or longbeak arrowhead flowers can be seen along the shores of AL, AR, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN(R), KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NJ(E), NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, and WV. Polk Co FL, 10/21/15. Water-plantain family, Alismataceae.
