Florida yellow bladderwort, Utricularia floridana
One never tires of the bladderwort story. Of course, we're too big to get caught by bladderwort traps. And most of us wouldn't get caught dead in the mucky and brackish places where bladderworts grow. But the botany clubbers aren't like that. We got to see quite a few bladderworts on the trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The one here uses the tiny bladders on its leaves to trap food at the other end of the country. Those eighth-inch traps close their doors in something like 10 to 15 miliseconds. Florida bladderworts grow in AL, FL, GA, NC, and SC. Collier Co FL, 1/25/13. Butterwort family, Lenticulariaceae.
